HALAL Certification

What HALAL Certification is, and who needs it

Halal certification confirms that a product and the process behind it comply with Islamic dietary requirements. For Indian exporters it is frequently a commercial precondition rather than a differentiator - many importing markets and buyers will simply not place an order without it.

The essentials

What the standard asks of you

๐Ÿงพ

Ingredients and sourcing

Every input is screened, including processing aids and additives that are easy to overlook but decide the outcome.

โ†”๏ธ

Segregation

Storage, handling, equipment and production flow must keep halal and non-halal streams genuinely separate, with evidence.

๐Ÿงผ

Cleaning and changeover

Documented cleaning between runs where shared equipment is used, because this is where most findings arise.

๐Ÿ“„

Traceability

Being able to trace a finished batch back through its inputs is central to the audit, not an optional extra.

๐ŸŒ

Export market access

Widely required by importers and distributors across Muslim-majority markets, and increasingly requested by retailers elsewhere.

๐Ÿค

Works with your food safety system

Sits naturally alongside ISO 22000, HACCP or GMP, since the documentation and traceability requirements overlap substantially.

FAQ

HALAL Certification, answered

Straight answers on scope, timelines and what Ascenvia actually does.

What is halal certification?
Confirmation by a recognised halal certification body that a product, and the process used to make it, comply with Islamic dietary requirements - covering ingredients, handling, equipment, segregation and traceability.
Who needs halal certification?
Food and beverage manufacturers, ingredient and additive suppliers, pharmaceutical and cosmetics manufacturers, and exporters selling into Muslim-majority markets. It is often a buyer requirement rather than optional.
Does it only apply to meat?
No. It covers the whole product and process - ingredients, processing aids, equipment, cleaning, storage and transport. Many non-meat products require certification because of additives or shared equipment.
Can we hold halal certification alongside ISO 22000?
Yes, and it is common. The traceability, segregation and documentation requirements overlap considerably, so running them together is more efficient than treating them as separate projects.
Who issues the certificate?
A halal certification body. Which body is appropriate depends on your target markets, since importing countries recognise different bodies. We help you identify the right one before you start.
What does Ascenvia do for halal certification?
Ingredient and supplier screening, segregation and process review, cleaning and changeover controls, documentation and traceability, staff training, and support through the certification audit.

Also looking at ISO 9001:2026 or ISO 14001:2026? Many clients run an integrated system and certify together.
